Gaaya began her career in education in 2007 as a behavior therapist providing services to students with autism in Toronto, Canada. Throughout her career she held various roles including special education teacher, high school science department head, assistant director of special education and academic dean in the South Bronx. Most recently, prior to joining IAL, Gaaya served as the Elementary School Director of Academic Programs at a charter school in the South Bronx for five years. Gaaya holds a Masters Degree in Special Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and a certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard University.

Gaaya has a deep understanding of the unique needs of elementary education. She has demonstrated her ability to inspire and motivate students, cultivate strong relationships with parents and guardians, and empower teachers and staff to excel. She has extensive background in curriculum and instruction, a strong commitment to student success, and a passion for educational equity and fostering a positive learning environment.
